Indications

Therapeutic group:

Ibuprofen belongs to a group of medicines called Non Steroidal Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAID).

Adex liqui-gels 400 mg is a preparation that intended for the treatment of headache associated with migraine. For the relief of mild to moderate pain , such as : headache, toothache, menstrual pain , backache , muscle ache. Adex liqui-gels also anti-inflammatory and analgesic for arthritis in rheumatic diseases and osteoarthritis. As well it intended for fever reduction.

Instructions

Do not halve or crush the medicine! Swallow the medicine with a full glass of water with or immediately after a meal.

Recommended dosage unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor:

Adults and children over 12 years of age - one capsule every 6-8 hours , as long as the symptoms persist. Do not take more than 3 capsules in 24 hours.

The use of Adex liqui-gels 400 mg in children under 12 years of age will be under medical supervision.

For relief of menstrual cramps , start treatment as soon as the pain appears.

Do not exceed the recommended dosage.

Take the lowest dose that achieves the treatment objective.

Adex liqui-gels 400 mg are intended for short-term use only. Do not take this medicine for more than 10 consecutive days unless instructed by your doctor.

If the treatment is chronic , this medicine is to be taken at regular intervals.

Stop using the medicine and refer to your doctor , if fever lasts for more than 3 days, if pain persists more than 10 days or if the painful area is swollen or red or if new symptoms appear.

During long term treatment with Adex liqui-gels there may be a need to perform tests: blood , liver and kidney function , urine , eyes.

Warnings

Do not use Adex liqui-gels if you are hypersensitive to the active ingredient ( ibuprofen ).

Do not use this medicine if you are hypersensitive to salicylates ( e.g. aspirin ) and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers/fever reducers.

Do not use this medicine if you had an allergic reaction in the past while taking any analgesic.

Do not use this medicine if you are concurrently taking other NSAIDs.

Do not take this medicine if you suffer or have suffered in the past from an ulcer ( peptic ulcer ), bleeding or gastric perforation.

Do not use this medicine if you just had or are planning to undergo heart surgery.

Do not use this medicine if you suffer from severe heart , kidney or liver failure.

Do not use Adex liqui-gels if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. If you become pregnant during the course of taking this medicine , inform your doctor.

Taking this medicine may cause hypersensitivity after sun exposure , therefore , avoid sun exposure and use appropriate protection ( long clothing , a hat , sunscreen , etc).

Taking this preparation may cause gastric bleeding , especially if you are over 60 years of age , if you are taking other NSAIDs and if you consume more than 3 alcoholic beverages per day.

Do not use this medicine often or for prolonged periods without consulting your doctor. Taking this medicine at a higher dose than recommended or longer than 10 days may increase the risk of stroke or heart attack and gastric bleeding.

You should inform your doctor if you are planning to undergo surgery ( including dental surgery ) since the medicine may increase the risk of bleeding.

You should inform your doctor if you are planning to undergo laboratory tests , since the treatment may interfere with the test results.

Do not take this medicine without consulting a doctor before starting treatment:

  • If you are suffering or have suffered in the past from heart diseases , you have suffered in the past from a stroke or if you at risk for these situations ( for example , if you suffer from hypertension , diabetes , high cholesterol or if you smoke).
  • If you suffer from impaired function of the: respiratory system ( e.g. asthma ), liver , kidney/urinary tract , digestive system e.g. heartburn , stomach pain ( including alcoholism , which can cause digestive system toxicity), blood system ( e.g. coagulation , anemia).
  • If you suffer from nasal polyps , diseases that affect connective tissues , systemic lupus erythematosus , alcoholism , ulcers , sores or white spots in the mouth.
  • If you are over the age of 60.
  • If you are taking diuretics.
  • If you suffer from hypertension , heart failure.
  • If you suffer from edema ( e.g. swelling of the feet ) or diabetes , there may be an increased risk of renal failure.
  • If you suffer from digestive system disease such as ulcerative colitis , Crohn's disease.
  • If taking medicines of this group or any other analgesic caused serious side effects in the past.
    • Other medicines containing ibuprofen , salycilates ( e.g. aspirin ) and other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory pain relievers/fever reducers , paracetamol.
    • Anticoagulants such as warfarin , heparin , ticlopidine ( ibuprofen may increase the effect of these medicines).
    • Platelet aggregation inhibitor medicines such as aspirin , clopidogrel ( concomitant use may increase the risk of digestive system bleeding).
    • Diuretics ( ibuprofen may decrease the effect of diuretics). Concomitant use with diuretics may increase the risk of kidney damage.
    • Medicines for the treatment of heart disease (e.g. digoxin).
    • Antihypertensives ( beta blockers e.g. atenolol , ACE inhibitors e.g. captopril or angiotensin II receptor anatagonists e.g. losartan). Ibuprofen may decrease the effect of these medicines. Additionally , in people with kidney dysfunction , concomitant use with medicines from certain antihypertensive groups may cause further kidney function deterioration.
    • Lithium ( for the treatment of bipolar disorder ).
    • Medicines of the selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors ( SSRIs ) group for the treatment of conditions such as anxiety and depression ( concomitant use may increase the risk of digestive system bleeding ).
    • Probenecid ( for the treatment of gout ).
    • Steroids ( concomitant use may increase the risk of an ulcer or bleeding in the digestive system ).
    • Methotrexate ( mainly for the treatment of malignant diseases , psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis ).
    • Immunosuppressive drugs ( e.g. ciclosporin , tacrolimus ).
    • Antibiotics of the Quinolone group ( e.g. ciprofloxacin ).
    • Mifeprestone ( taking ibuprofen within 12 days following the use of mifeprestone may decrease the effect of mifeprestone).
    • Ant diabetic drugs ( ibuprofen may increase the activity of these drugs thereby necessitating dosage adjustment ).
    • Valproic acid ( mainly used for treatment of epilepsy and convulsions ) , concomitant use may increase the risk of bleeding.
    • Colchicine ( concomitant use may increase the risk of ulcer or bleeding in the digestive system ).
    • Zidovudine ( anti-viral preparation ).

Elderly patients are more likely to develop side effects due to taking medicines of the NSAIDs group e.g. ibuprofen and mainly gastric perforation or bleeding.

In certain patients this medicine may cause drowsiness , dizziness or blurred vision. If you experience these effects after using the medicine , you should be careful when driving a car or operating dangerous machinery and in any other activity which requires alertness. As for children , they should be warned to be careful when riding a bicycle or playing near roads etc.

If you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines , including non-prescription drugs and nutrition supplements , please tell your doctor or pharmacist , in order to prevent hazards or lack of efficacy arising from drug interactions.
