Iron tablets for a treatment and prevention of anemia caused by iron deficiency.

Active Ingredients

Each tablet contains:

Ferrous sulfate dried 247.25 mg (equivalent to approximately 80 mg ferrous iron).

Indications

Therapeutic group:

Iron preparations for the treatment of anemia.

Tardyferon tablets are intended for the treatment and prevention of iron deficiency anemia.

Instructions

Swallow the whole tablet. Do not suck, crunch or keep the tablet in your mouth.

Do not crush/split/chew the tablet as there is a risk of mouth ulcers and discoloration of the teeth.

To be taken with a full glass of water, preferably before or during meals, depending on your stomach tolerance.

Wait at least 2 hours between taking this medicine and taking of milk products, alcohol, tea, coffee, eggs, spinach and whole wheat products.

The recommended dose, unless otherwise prescribed by your physician:

For the treatment of iron deficiency in adults: Usually one tablet daily.

For the prevention of iron deficiency in pregnant women: 1 tablet per day or every 2 days, during the last 2 trimesters of pregnancy (from the 4th month), according to physician’s discretion.

Use this medicine only for the period determined by the attending physician.

Do not exceed the recommended dose.

Blood tests should be performed during the period of treatment with this medicine.

Do not use this medicine frequently or for prolonged period without consulting a physician.

Reduced iron levels in the blood associated with inflammatory syndromes, do not respond to the treatment with Tardyferon tablets.

Treatment with Tardyferon tablets must, as far as possible, be combined with treatment of the cause for the reduction in the number of red blood cells.

If you forget to take the medicine at the scheduled time, do not take a double dose. Take the next dose at the usual time and consult the physician.

Continue the treatment as recommended by the physician.

Even if there is an improvement in your health, do not stop treatment with this medicine without consulting the physician.

Warnings

Do not use Tardyferon tablets if you are sensitive (allergic) to the active ingredient or to any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

Do not use this medicine if you suffer from high level of iron or from anemia that does not result from iron deficiency.

Before using this medicine, tell your physician if:

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding.
  • You suffer, or have suffered in the past from:impaired function of the digestive system (such as ulcer or intestinal inflammation), impaired function of the blood system.
  • You get repeated blood transfusions.

If you are taking or have recently taken other medicines, including nonprescription medications and food supplements, inform your physician or pharmacist, in order to prevent hazards or lack of efficacy arising from drug interactions. In particular, inform the physician or the pharmacist if you are taking:

  • Preparations containing iron (especially injectable iron salts).
  • Antibiotics belonging to the tetracycline group in oral intake.
  • Antacids, zinc salts, penicillamine or cholestyramine (for decreasing cholesterol level)- the absorption of Iron salts decreases when given concomitantly with these medicines.
  • Zinc salts, ciprofloxacin, penicillamine and methyldopa (for the treatment of hypertension) and vitamin E- the presence of iron salts interrupts the absorption of these medicines.
  • Consuming large quantities of tea inhibits iron absorption.

Wait at least 2 hours between taking this medicine and taking of antacids, calcium additives, quinolones, antibiotic preparations belonging to the tetracycline group and medicines for the treatment of hypercalcemia (Etidronate).

If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to get pregnant, you should consult a physician before taking this medicine. Your physician will decide whether you can use this medicine during pregnancy or breast-feeding.
